4 trees of the same breed growing on a stumps, brought about by air-delivered seeds landing on the stumps block coincidentally.

An attraction named 'Love Forever'. The roots of 2 aged cypress intertwined to form a heart shape.

This is the partial trunk of a giant red cypress named Alishan Shenmu (dbh 25m; height 50m) which is estimated to be 3000 years old. It was discovered in 1906 and has been regarded as a landmark of Alishan Forest. It was on fire in 1953 & 1956 due to lightning & thunderstorm, followed by its collapse in 1997 because of torrential rain. In 1998, its trunk was laid here (the place where it originally stood) to let it return to the nature and as a reminiscence of its past glamor.

The hollowed-out trunk of an aged red cypress, brought about by a kind of decay named ‘rotten lotus rhizome’. The phloem & cambium inside its bark transport water & nutrients, thus sustaining the tree disregard of the hollow.
The cypress having hollow (left side of the picture) :
age: 1500 years   height:  42m   dbh:  9.4m

The Forest’s foggy environment enables almost every part of a tree to provide an ideal habitat for epiphytes.
